JOB OPPORTUNITY: NCS Team Leader 

National Citizen Service (NCS) gives young people the opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and make a difference to their community by taking part in a Social Action Project. 

NCS Team Leaders are individuals who are all come with a range of different experiences and backgrounds but they all have one thing in common. Every Team Leader has the passion and determination to see each young person achieving their potential.

 Team Leaders play an integral part to the success of the programme as they help and support young people through the process but also recognise their achievements and reflect and record these that will later support them with their further education or job prospects.

 Young people apply to join NCS for a range of different reasons, one of the most common is because they would like to add something to their CV’s and stand out from the crowd. These same benefits apply to those who are thinking of applying to be a Team Leader.

 We are currently looking for individuals who share the same passion as us, who feel they could lead a team of young people, communicate effectively and are committed to supporting young people develop their skills. Role: Team Leader

Programme Dates:  (All 4-5 weeks long)

Programme 1 – Starting 30th June

Programme 2 – Starting 14 July

Programme 3 – Starting 4th August

Salary: £2,000 paid on programme completion

You will work with between 12 to 15 young people, supporting them through the Outdoor Adventure Residential and Skills Development Residential part of the programme, before they start working on a Social Action Project to make their mark on their own community.

Essential criteria

As a team leader, you must:

• Have experience of managing and motivating young people

• Have experience of helping young people to take more active roles in their communities

• Have experience of working directly with teams of young people (either in voluntary or paid capacity), including some with challenging behaviour

• Have rapport and empathy with young people

• Be able to facilitate small group discussions and reflect on learning

• Be able to encourage passion/interest in building stronger communities and seeing change in society

• Have experience of assisting  young people’s personal development

• A sense of humour!

Desirable criteria


It would be beneficial if you:

• Have successfully managed and motivated people in challenging environments
• Have experience of working in partnership with youth or diverse community organisations
• Have experience in a residential youth environment (e.g. youth camp, scouts, DofEetc)
• Have experience of UFA activity /ethos
